With the recent Supreme Court ruling that overturned the 1992 Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act making it legal for states to allow sports betting, a lot of Mainers have been excited to get their chance to place a wager. It's not that easy though.

According to The Portland Press Herald, as of right now there is no law on the books regarding sports betting and a specific law allowing it would have to be enacted just to get the ball rolling. We all know the speed at which government works. It's likely nothing will be proposed until next year's Maine legislative session.

If and when a law is enacted, it could open the door for Oxford Casino, Hollywood Casino and the state's race tracks and off-track betting locations to be able to offer sports betting. In the meantime, you'll have to stick with that small friendly wager between you and your buddy that if the Red Sox don't beat the Yankees, you'll wear a Yankees jersey for a week.

Seriously, why are there Yankee fans living in Maine? That's an article for another day.
