We swam and skipped our way through summer, trick or treated our way through October, and now we are starting to prepare for the feast of Thanksgiving.

Assembling a holiday dinner for your family can get expensive and the pressure to present to your family a Thanksgiving meal can financially set some back if they can even do it at all.

To ensure this holiday is accessible to all and that everyone in our community, regardless of socioeconomic status, can enjoy a meal with their families, I have pulled together a list of resources for access to food this holiday.

Freeport Community Services

Freeport Community Services has a holiday helpline with a strong mission to make the holidays happy for every family. They have a direct link for service help here.

Salvation Army

The Salvation Army has many locations that offer holiday assistance. If you click the link above, it will direct you to a page for you to locate your nearest Salvation Army. From there, you can contact them and learn about what services they are providing this holiday year.

FEDCAP Maine

Click on the link above and it will bring you to a list of free Thanksgiving meals and where to get them based on your location in Maine!

Good Shepherd Food Bank of Maine

Good Shepherd has resources and locations scattered throughout Maine. Check out the food map on their service page to find the closest spot to you.

Wayside Food Programs

Wayside offers Thanksgiving assistance with the help of local volunteers. The link will bring you to a list of local Portland and Cumberland County locations with pantries and food programs and you can also call them at 207-775-4939 to get assistance.

I hope this list is helpful and you are able to meet your and your family’s needs through these services. Even if you are not in need of help this holiday season, please share these resources so everyone can have the happiest of holidays with their loved ones.

This website is also a great resource for needs beyond just holiday help!
