As of this week, The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children will be able to put Amber Alerts on Facebook. If a child goes missing in your area, Facebook will put a notice on your News Feed. It will have all the information like a picture of the missing child and where the possible abduction happened. It will look like this:

Facebook Amber Alert

loading...

They will show up in your News Feed like any other, except it will be marked "Amber Alert", which stands for "America's Missing: Broadcast Emergency Response".

Amber Alerts work....723 children have been saved since 1996.

But you may never see an Amber Alert through Facebook though. Thank God they are rare. There are approximately 180 alerts a year.

I personally think this is a fantastic addition to Facebook. It might just mean that we can help someone instead of seeing how someone can make penguin cookies. Although, those penguin cookies are cute.
