There's an article making the rounds on Facebook that claims that actor and comedian Will Ferrell's rental car broke down in Augusta, but like so many things on Facebook, don't believe everything you read.

The title of the article making the rounds reads "Will Ferrell Had This to Say About Augusta, Maine Residents." There are so many things that point to this being a total fake.

The website claims to be News Daily 12 with local news and breaking news. There's no such thing in Maine.

It goes on to say that in a radio station interview, he said his rental car broke down in Augusta. Here's how the article claims Ferrell told the story:

“We were just leaving the city limits of Augusta, Maine when the damn car overheated or something so I pulled it over to the side of the road and within just a minute or two there were a couple of cars that pulled over to help me out. I told them that I was on the phone with the rental car company but one of them had a brother who owned a tow truck and a few minutes later it was there and he towed it to a place nearby to get fixed.

So then the one guy finds out that I’m not from there and offers to take me in to get lunch while my car is getting fixed and I’m thinking, ‘Sure, what the hell.’ So we drove to the finest dining spot in Augusta – some place called The Red Barn – and got some lobster rolls. Great freakin’ lobster rolls too. These guys had no idea who I was either which made my day, honestly.

I’m telling you, these people in Augusta are the real deal. I’m gonna move there after I retire, ” Ferrell said with a laugh.

Ferrell added later, “You have to understand, this is something that would’ve never happened in L.A.! So yeah, that’s my story about Augusta. It’s nice to know there are still places like this in America.”

All of it is untrue. Just do a Google search for "Will Ferrell Had This To Say" and you will see dozens of articles with cities all across the country named. Fill in the blanks with a city, and something generally local about the area, and boom! Everyone falls for it.

Save yourself the embarrassment of your friends calling you out on this hoax by not sharing it on your Facebook page. If and when Will Ferrell does show up in Maine, for real, we'll let you know.
