Fake Money Is Circulating in Maine But It’s Not Counterfeit
This $20 bill spent in Maine recently looks very real. However it's a fake but is created with permission from the US Treasury.
The Penobscot County Federal Credit Union in Bangor posted a photo of this bill that is circulating in that area, meaning several others could be out there. You might want to check your twenties to make sure you haven't accidentally gotten one of these.
They aren't counterfeit, but they are legal replicas that are used by movie studios when they have a scene with a lot of money.
If you look closely, you can see markings like "This is a replica" and "This note is not legal. It is to be used for motion pictures."
So if you work in retail or even have some twenties in your wallet, you may want to check to make sure they didn't star in a movie.
