A ‘Saved By the Bell’ and ‘National Lampoon’s’ Reunion Are Both Coming to Boston
Fan Expo Boston
Your typical 'comic con' is anything but typical anymore.
Once focused primarily on comic books or comic culture (hence the name, 'comic con' a shortened version of 'comic book convention'), comic cons have blown up into massive conventions where the comic culture almost takes a bit of a backseat and instead allows fans to meet celebrities from their favorite television shows and movies, both past and present.
Friday, June 14 through Sunday, June 16, at Hynes Convention Center in Boston, Massachusetts, the 2024 version of Boston's Comic Con -- Fan Expo Boston -- will take place and reunite two of the most popular franchises from the '80s and '90s.
Saved By the Bell
For '80s and '90s kids, Saved By the Bell was always a go-to, considering it was a bit of a coming-of-age television show that followed a group of high school friends -- a mix of popular jocks, popular troublemakers, popular cheerleaders, and your stereotypical nerdy smart kid -- through their life inside and outside the classroom.
Odds are if you watched the show, you had a crush on either the blonde surfer boy always coming up with some scheme, Zack Morris (played by Mark Paul Gosselaar), or the hunky jock, A.C. Slater (played by Mario Lopez).
Fresh off Peacock's attempted revival of the show that lasted only two seasons, both Mark Paul and Mario will be in Boston this weekend for Fan Expo Boston. But that's not the only big reunion happening in New England this weekend.
Christmas Vacation
Not a Christmas goes by where families from all across the globe don't take in the holiday adventures of Clark W. Griswold in National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation.
Although not the first movie released under the National Lampoon franchise, other than 1978's Animal House -- which had nothing to do with the Griswold Family -- it may be the most popular.
The first National Lampoon movie that followed the Griswold's was Vacation, which dropped in 1983, followed a couple of years later in 1985 by European Vacation which was just did okay before the massive smash that's been a hit for 35 years, 1989's Christmas Vacation.
They tried to capture the Griswold Family magic one extra time in 1997 with the release of Vegas Vacation, but it ended up barely being a blip on the radar, and it wasn't until the Griswold storyline returned once again in 2015 with the re-imagined Vacation, but again, barely a blip on the radar.
This weekend in Boston, though, the OG Griswold's -- Chevy Chase, Beverly D'Angelo, Randy Quaid (better known as Cousin Eddie), and more will reunite at Fan Expo Boston.
Plenty of other celebrities from your favorite shows and movies over the years will be in attendance, as well as comic creators, gaming stars, anime guests, tattoo artists, and more!
