In a surprise announcement nobody saw coming, Governor Paul LePage announced that some people who live and work in Maine may need to refile their state income tax returns for 2017 because the state made an error.

According to WMTW, Maine's state tax code was not changed to reflect federal tax changes, which includes the changes that the Trump administration made. That leaves some people in the state looking at a potential amended 2017 return. The legislature will have more information on whom this will affect in the coming weeks.

LePage said that the State of Maine will offer guidance on what everyone who is affected can do within the next 6 weeks. Following that, it will be up to each individual and business to file an amended tax return for 2017 to fall under federal tax guidelines.
