Granger Smith's 3-year old son's cause of death has been revealed. The country star's rep told People River died in a tragic drowning accident at home.

Granger Smith revealed his youngest son, River Kelly Smith, had died at the age of 3.

The country star announced the heartbreaking news via social media Thursday (June 6) alongside a precious photo with his son. Though he didn't go into detail about how he passed away, Smith did call it a tragic accident.

"I have to deliver unthinkable news. We’ve lost our youngest son, River Kelly Smith," he wrote. "Following a tragic accident, and despite doctor’s best efforts, he was unable to be revived. Amber and I made the decision to say our last goodbyes and donate his organs so that other children will be given a second chance at life."

"Our family is devastated and heartbroken," he added. "If there are words to say more, I cannot find them in this moment. Love the ones close to you. There has never been a more difficult moment for us than this."

Smith's wife, Amber, shared the same heartbreaking message to her Instagram account, writing, “Nothing can prepare a mother to deliver this kind of news."

The singer, who is known for hits songs like "Backroad Song" and "If the Boot Fits," always shared photos of his beautiful family on social media. The last one he posted with his son was on May 17 in front of their home.
