Don't you shudder when you think of all the times you did this a kid?

You know the famous term "Don't eat the yellow snow"? Meaning that someone may have peed in it? Well it turns out that icicles aren't so great either. When you live through our harsh Maine winters, you end up spending a fair amount of time outdoors, either shoveling, or frolicking in the snow after a raging blizzard, so naturally you do things that maybe you otherwise not be foolish enough to do.

Katie Nickolaou is the Morning Meteorologist for Siouxland News At Sunrise on KMEG, in Sioux City, Iowa, and she has a warning for those of you who may be tempted to wet your whistle by licking an icicle...go inside and get a glass of cold water instead! In a video posted to her TikTok and Twitter accounts she explained this by saying

“Please don’t do that!” “When icicles form, it’s from water that melts off of your roof and runs down the side of a building. Well, here’s the thing: You know what else is on your roof? Bird poop. A lot of it. And that water picks it up and freezes it in the ice. You’re eating poop! ”

In a different video, she also reminded all of us that an icicle isn't something to fool around with. They can be dangerous. They are giant frozen chunks of ice afterall.

So by all means, head outside and enjoy whatever it is about winter that you like, but you might want to rethink using your backyard as place to grab lunch.
