The drive up Route 2 alone would be worth the trip. According to the MaineFoliage Report, the leaves are at their peak in the Newry area right now.

As part of the Fall Festival, Sunday River's website says the ski resort is offering scenic chairlift rides, both Saturday and Sunday, to take in all those fall colors.

"Take in views of the foliage from high above with a scenic chairlift ride on the resort's Chondola."

Also on tap this weekend is the 37th Annual Blue Mountain Arts & Crafts Fair, featuring the work of many local Maine artisans.

If you're really in the mood for something unique, quirky, and very entertaining, you might want to take in the 22nd Annual North American Wife Carrying Championship scheduled to take place Saturday morning.

For those who have never heard of this event, it's a 278 yard obstacle course in which wives are carried by husbands, and the winner gets "the wife's weight in beer and five times her weight in cash."

Those of you with mad cornhole skills might want to check out Sunday's 7th Annual New England Cornhole Championship.

One of the great things about living in Maine, in the fall, is that people seem to try to pack in as much as they can for the short, beautiful season, so there's never really a lack of activities on the weekends.

Whatever you end up doing, we hope you get out and enjoy Maine in all its glory these next couple of weeks, before the leaves all fall and the snow starts to fly!
