Even though Maine does have its fair share of missing persons cases, normally, the people are found within a few days.  And, fortunately, they are often perfectly fine when found.

However, we do occasionally have missing persons cases that baffle investigators.

For example, the search for 78-year-old Douglas Dunphy, who has been missing for nearly six months, is still ongoing.

This all started back in mid-January. The Hampden Police Department began looking into Dunphy’s disappearance on January 15, and by the next day, they brought in the Maine State Police to help.

From there, it turned into a full team effort. Investigators from multiple agencies, including the Bangor Police Department and the Maine Warden Service, have spent weeks trying to track down any sign of him.

As of May 4th, Dunphy has yet to be found.

Because of how complicated this case has become, the Major Crimes Unit North with Maine State Police will now take the lead moving forward. Hampden Police will still be heavily involved and working alongside them.

And there’s another step happening right away.

On Tuesday, May 5th, search crews will be out along Kennebec Road in Hampden, focusing on areas investigators believe are most likely to turn up answers. Officials say this kind of targeted search is pretty standard in cases like this.

If you happen to see a large law enforcement presence in the area, don’t be alarmed. There’s no known danger to the public, and they’re not asking for volunteers to help with the search.

We’ll keep you posted as soon as there are any updates.

If you know anything that can help law enforcement, you can call 207.973.3700 EXT. 9 and ask to speak with Det. Jennifer Fiske or leave a tip ONLINE

Creepy Maine Cryptids

Maine has everything needed to support a healthy -- and scary -- population of cryptids. The state is remote with lots of fields, forests, rivers, and lakes -- all of which can be home to the elusive creatures in the gallery below. The photos below were generated by artificial intelligence from documented descriptions of the cryptids. Come on. How else are we supposed to get photos of such elusive -- and maybe mythical? -- creatures?

Here's the Top 20 Maine Craft Beers According to BeerAdvocate

Here is a list of the 20 highest rated beers from Maine breweries on the website, BeerAdvocate.

The list is dominated by three breweries- Allagash, Bissel Brothers, and Maine Beer Co. The IPA style is clearly the most popular, which is not surprising given recent beer trends.

Research comes from Beer Advocate's Maine page in April 2026.
