A Surprising Number of Maine Residents Believe in Ghosts
So, we are in the middle of ‘spooky season’ here in Maine.
That’s the time of the year when we all focus on stories about ghosts, haunted houses, monsters in the Maine woods, and overall creepy stories.
Do you believe that ghosts are real? If you said yes, you are not alone.
How Many Mainers Believe in Ghosts?
A new study from Mad City Windows has found that 63.3% of Maine residents believe in ghosts.
That's about 890,000 Mainers!
Maine is somewhat in the middle when it comes to belief in ghosts. The state with the fewest believers in ghosts is Ohio, with 50% of residents saying they believe. The state with the highest percentage was Tennessee. About 78.9% of TN residents say they believe.
On top of that, about 52% of Americans say that they believe in ghosts because of an actual paranormal experience they had. And, about half of those who responded say they would purchase a haunted house if It meant that the price would be lower.
My Personal Ghost Experience (Cooper Versus The Bathroom Ghost)
Over the years, I have lived in several haunted apartments and houses.
The one that sticks out most in my mind, though, is the haunted apartment that we lived in in downtown North Conway, New Hampshire.
The tiny apartment, which was attached to a daycare and a retail space, had a haunted bathroom.
Yes! The living room, bedroom, and kitchen were all paranormal free, but the bathroom was definitely haunted.
How do I know?
There were always strange things going on in the bathroom. Stuff getting moved, for example.
What really did it for me, though, was the time that I heard the ghost while I was getting ready for work. I was doing a morning show at the time, so I was getting up for work super early. No one else in the apartment was up. I used the bathroom and, before hopping in the shower, I put the toilet seat down.
The second I did that, I could hear a female voice say, almost in a whisper, “Thank you.”
It freaked me out for a second. But, after figuring out that it must be a ghost, and not a person, I took a deep breath and went on with my morning routine.
