Massive Drive Through Lights Display Returns to Maine For the Holidays
While people have been decorating with Christmas lights for hundreds of years, in recent decades those decorations have gotten really elaborate.
For example, we have seen Central Maine businesses become known for their Holiday lights displays and we have seen summer attractions getting a new life as an award-winning winter attraction.
These days, partly because of the craziness of the pandemic, we have also started seeing many drive-through lights displays popping up across the region. While they started as an attraction meant to keep people 'safe' through social distancing, they often stuck around because of the convenience of being able to enjoy the lights while staying warm and enjoying the snacks you brought with you.
One of the most notable drive-through lights displays in Maine is the Maine Celebration of Lights at the Cumberland Fairgrounds.
Put on by midway/carnival company Fiesta Shows, the event takes over the fairgrounds from November 28th through January 3rd.
The event is described as:
In Cumberland, Maine, join us for over 1 mile of roadway transformed into a glittering display of over 1 million LED lights, featuring animated scenes, a 300’ multi-color tunnel and displays as much as 50’ tall. If you are looking to see a holiday light show in Maine, this is an attraction not to be missed!
Tickets range in price from $20 to $50, depending on the size of your vehicle.

Fiesta Shows also operates lights displays in the South Shore of Massachusetts, Lancaster (MA), and Methuen (MA).
