Central Maine High Schoolers Taken to the Hospital After Falling Ill on Bus
According to an article in the KJ, 13 Maine high school students were taken to the hospital after they reportedly started feeling sick during a Thursday evening bus trip.
The article explains that, at about 10:20 p.m. on Thursday, Fairfield-Benton Fire & Rescue got a call from a bus that was stopped along the side of the southbound side of I-95 because a number of students reported that they were feeling ill.
A sizeable team of first responders came to the aid of the students. The article explains that about six firefighters from Fairfield-Benton responded. Additionally, there were ambulances from Delta Ambulance, the Waterville Fire Department, Winslow, Clinton, Sebasticook Valley Hospital, and one from Redington-Fairview General Hospital in Skowhegan.
The affected students were taken to nearby hospitals in Waterville. Some of the students were brought to Thayer Center for Health, the others were taken to Northern Light Inland Hospital.

Most had fairly minor ailments. Nausea and headaches, for example.
It is believed that the students may have come into contact with antifreeze. While a test for a carbon monoxide leak came up negative, there was, apparently, a small antifreeze leak on the bus.
Based on comments from people at the scene, it is believed that the bus was Edward Little High School in Auburn. The bus was one of two that had been bringing students from a track meet back to the school.
