It’s Official! Former Central Maine Drive-In Theater Will Become a Mobile Home Park
For seventy summers, the Skowhegan Drive-In Theater welcomed tens of thousands of Central Mainers.
First opening in 1954, the theater showed a mix of first-run movies and classics. Sadly, like a lot of drive-in theaters, the Skowhegan Drive-In ran into financial troubles in the 2010s. While the drive-in did see a spike in business during the pandemic, the theater ultimately closed at the end of the 2023 season.
After sitting closed for more than a year, it looks like the property will take on a new life as a mobile home park.
According to an article on the KJ website, A&L Properties Inc., which is in the process of buying the property located at 201 Waterville Road, was given the green light from the Skowhegan Planning Board to rehabilitate the property for use as a mobile home park.
The article explains that the 11-acre site will have space for 36 mobile homes and six spots for RVs.
In order for the plan to go forward, the developers will still need a stormwater permit from the Maine Department of Environmental Protection. The mobile home park will have access to town water and septic.
It does not sound like there will need to be any traffic pattern changes on Waterville Road.
The article indicates that it does not appear that the sale of the property to A&L Properties Inc. has been finalized. According to a posting on the Rizzo Matson website, the property is 'under contract'.
We wish the people of A&L Properties Inc. all the best. While we were sad to see the drive-in close, we are happy to see the property take on a new life.
