Target New Enforcing New Ten-Feet Rule – Maine, New Hampshire, & Massachusetts Take Note
As we continue to see online shopping cut into the business of brick and mortar stores, we are seeing more retail chains make changes meant to provide their customers with a better shopping experience.
Recently, Walmart announced a new AI feature called Sparky on its app that was meant to provide shoppers with helpful information while they are shopping. Weather forecasts and traffic alerts for the trip to popular attractions, for example.
We have also seen several major retail chains backpedal on the use of self-checkout kiosk. While not getting rid of them altogether, many have started limiting the number of kiosks in operation at any given time and scheduling more people to work their checkout lines.
Now, we are hearing that Target is enforcing a new rule for their staff that is meant to make the store a more friendly place to shop.
What Is Target's New Ten-Feet Rule?
Don't worry, the new rule is nothing that you have to worry about. This is not a rule that you have to follow. In fact, this rule only affects Target staff.
According to an article in The Sun, the new rule is that all staff members smile and make eye contact with any customer that comes within ten-feet of them. Additionally, employees who come within 4 feet of a customer are required to ask them how they are and if they need any help.
The article explained that key customer metrics rose when the customers surveyed felt like they were being acknowledged by the staff.
What else do you think retailers could do to encourage people to shop at their stores instead of shopping online?
