It's always sad for us when it comes time to report about a locally-owned business closing their doors after such a short time but, alas, we must do that today.

According to an article published by the Kennebec Journal, the Waterville business 'A Coffeehouse' is set to close at the end of the month following their first year in business.

The newspaper goes on to say that even though the coffee shop is set to close in just a couple of weeks, they are going to remain open through the rest of the month and will operate from 11a-7p Thursday through Monday and 9a-3p on Sundays until they close.

Jenny Allen, owner of the 252 Main Street business, told the Kennebec Journal in part,

“The goal for year one was to open a kick-a** coffeehouse and get sustainable by the end of year one. Our business model is not economically sustainable. If people want to contact us with group events, we’d be more than happy to try to accommodate them.”

Allen went on to say about her business and the city of Waterville,

“It’s a magical-like place. It’s a great space and, in the end, it’s a business, and a business has to be economically sustainable. My heart really goes out to all the small businesses in the city. It’s tough.”

In addition to serving great coffee and eats, A Coffeehouse was also a place where people from all around Central Maine would gather to have discussions, play musical instruments and even sing.

We wish Jenny and Co the best in their future endeavors. We're certain she's not done giving back to the community just yet!
