If the city council approves this new deal, the Augusta Civic Center's Paul G. Poulin Auditorium will soon have a new name, according to Central Maine.

A 10-year, $828,000 agreement with Hammond Lumber Company has been proposed and is currently under consideration, according to the article.

Where is the Augusta Civic Center?

The Civic Center, located at 76 Community Drive in Augusta, is a place so many of us have visited for many different events. I was just there for the Kenney Awards, and it was an incredible experience.

What’s amazing is how the space completely transforms depending on the event being held is truly remarkable.

As per the article, the agreement is to help balance the Civic Center’s budget and fund maintenance after some financial struggles after the pandemic.

The naming rights for the auditorium would bring in about $50,000 annually, with the rest going to advertising.

The change was made with approval from the Poulin family, as per the article.  Paul G. Poulin, is a well known former city manager who was certainly vital in the creation of the Civic Center’s, so he will still be honored.

What's the new name?

The Civic Center plans to rename the building’s main entrance the “Paul G. Poulin Entrance” and also show a display which will honor him and others that have contributed to the development of the center.

If the city council gives the green light then Hammond Lumber Co. will help keep the Civic Center going while still honoring Poulin’s legacy.
