Chick-A-Dee of Lewiston Announces Closing After Nearly 20 Years

A longtime Lewiston restaurant is preparing to close its doors after nearly two decades in business.

The Chick-A-Dee of Lewiston announced that it will close in November of 2026. The restaurant, owned by the Hird family, first opened in Lewiston in 2007.

In a Facebook post, the family called the decision “bittersweet” and thanked the community for years of support.

“After many wonderful years of serving this incredible community, our family has made the bittersweet decision to close the doors of The Chick-A-Dee,” the family wrote.

According to an article from Maine's WMTW, the Lewiston restaurant’s roots go back even further than 2007. Members of the Hird family purchased the original Chick-A-Dee Restaurant in Turner in the early 1970s. That location, which was on Route 4 near the Auburn line, originally opened in 1935 and remained a familiar stop for generations before closing in 2012.

The Hird family said customers have been part of countless memories over the years, including family dinners, birthday parties, graduation lunches, and everyday meals.

“To our dedicated team and our loyal customers: thank you from all of us Hirds,” the family wrote. “Your belief and trust in us have been the driving force behind every step of our journey.”

While the restaurant will close next November, the family is encouraging customers to stop in for a few last meals, say goodbye to the staff, and celebrate the memories made there, WMTW reported.

The family also hinted that more news is coming, saying they look forward to sharing their “BIG news and plans” in the months ahead.
