Fall is almost here, and before we know it, Maine will be filled with colorful leaves, pumpkins, pumpkin spice everything, and, of course, Halloween.

But first, I love when our local towns bring everyone together for those fun fall events that get families out of the house and ready for the new season. And Wiscasset is doing it right with its annual Scarecrow Festival.

A Fun Fall Day in Wiscasset

The Wiscasset Scarecrow Festival brings plenty of fall fun for kids and families, including face painting, a chili contest, a pumpkin dessert contest, and lots of other activities throughout the day.

But one of the best parts is what happens around town during October.

The Scarecrows Take Over Wiscasset

Different businesses and organizations get creative and build their own scarecrows, often making them fit the theme of their business.

That means you can literally drive through Wiscasset during October and spot scarecrows all over town. You never know what kind you'll see next!

It basically turns Wiscasset into a little scarecrow tour, and I love it.

The scarecrows are displayed outside participating locations throughout October, and the community gets to vote for their favorite. The winning scarecrow will be crowned on October 31st and receive a $100 cash prize.

So if you're heading through Wiscasset this fall, keep your eyes open. You might notice a few extra straw-filled locals hanging around town.
