The Dallas Mavericks shared a photo of Newport native Cooper Flagg dapping up and shaking hands with Michael Jordan at the Ryder Cup in New York on Saturday, September 27th.
Their caption read, ‘MJ Coop Epic link up at the Ryder Cup,’ highlighting the meeting between the young star and the basketball legend.

Flagg was just selected as the number one pick in the 2025 NBA Draft by the Dallas Mavericks, making him the second youngest player ever chosen first overall.
His Mavericks open preseason on October 6th against the reigning champion Oklahoma City Thunder, before his official debut on October 22nd versus Victor Wembanyama and the San Antonio Spurs.
