Maine Bakery Named One of the Best in America
Our Pine Tree State is home to many amazing bakeries and places to get baked goods, but one, in particular, is getting national attention!
Everyone loves a good bakery, but there's something special about the ones in our neck of the woods. Blueberry pastries are always a hit, but in Maine, they just hit differently.
Maybe it's because Maine's State Berry is the Wild Blueberry, making each bite feel extra special. Even if blueberries aren't different elsewhere, the vibes in Maine make them so much better.
But how are the best bakeries in America determined? And how did a Maine bakery end up on the list?
The publication Food & Wine put out their list of ‘The 100 Best Bakeries in America,’ focusing on recognizing both newer bakeries that have become essential in recent years and established bakeries that continue to inspire.
Food & Wine aimed to represent the diversity of American baking by including various types of bakeries, regardless of size, ensuring they contribute significantly to their regional food heritage and communities. The list acknowledges both open and temporarily closed establishments, providing a comprehensive view of America's vibrant baking culture.
So, which bakery in Maine was chosen as one of the best in the country?
Food & Wine selected ‘Night Moves Bread + Pie’ in South Portland as one of the top 100 best bakeries in America. The publication had the following to say:
Can a loaf of sourdough have terroir, just like wine? If yes, Kerry Hanney's would be Maine in bread form — one of the region's most forward-thinking bakers leans heavily on local grains and mills them herself. There are a whole lot of bread people out there nowadays, ready to bend your ear about this stuff; the follow-through here is impressive. PS: We didn't talk about the pie. (There's pie.)
What are your thoughts on Food & Wine’s selection? Have you ever been to Night Moves Bread + Pie in South Portland?
