This Maine Bar Has Been Named the ‘Most Fun’ in the State

Maine is filled with ‘fun’ bars, but this one, in particular, is apparently the ‘most fun!’

There are several reasons why folks go to bars. Whether it’s to grab a drink, meet new people, dance, or listen to music, regardless of the reason, hopefully, the main goal for everyone is the same: to have fun!

Maine may not have the type of club or nightclub scene that other, more party-filled states like New York, California, or Nevada have, but with what we do have, we make sure to use the space properly. We’re small but mighty.

Our Pine Tree State is filled with breweries, taprooms, taverns, pubs, and watering holes—no matter what you call them, there are plenty of places in Maine to grab a drink.

The experts over at Thrillist have spoken; they've put together a list of ‘The Wildest, Most Fun Bar in Every State.’

What Thrillist assembled is a list, separated by state, of the best so-called "wild" bars in America. They explain that “The selections included here might not be the absolute rowdiest places in town (though, sometimes they are), but they are joints that anyone—of any age, of any walk of life—should be able to walk into on any given night and expect the dopamine to flow…” Adding on, “These are bars where you can bring your freshly 21-year-old cousin, and your octogenarian grandma, too. Since fun comes in all shapes and sizes, expect to see some surprises.”

Maine’s selection is one that was surprising, yet not surprising at the same time. Thrillist chose Oasis on Wharf St. in the Old Port of Portland.

Thrillist said the following about Oasis:

Maine may rarely, if ever, reach desert-like temperatures, but you won't have time to ponder such incongruencies at Portland's most perpetually buzzing bar, what with the giant Jenga and Connect Four happening on the main floor, the live music and also-giant "beer pong" (think dodgeballs and buckets) going down on the back patio when it isn't snow-covered, and the debauched dancing happening on the more club-like upper level. Because who doesn't consider a Jenga victory, a little throwback Mario Kart (they have that too), and some mutually consensual grinding with friendly Mainers to be the components of a perfect evening? Oh, one more component: cheap 24-ounce beer cans in paper bags.
