One story suggests that Lionel Sternberger invented the cheeseburger in 1926, while working at his father’s California sandwich shop. During an experiment, he dropped a slice of American cheese on a sizzling hamburger, and a legend was born.
They decided to take on the task of naming the best burger in each state, and one here in The Pine Tree State came out on top.
Owls Head General Store, in Owls Head, Maine, won't reveal their secret burger-assembly process, but the loosely packed burgers are insanely juicy. They literally fall apart in your hands.
In fact, there most popular burger is called the "7 Napkin Burger" Enough said!

It was also voted Best of the Best Burger, by Village Soup and the readers of Down East Magazine two years in a row!
You can get one to go and eat it at Owls Head lighthouse, just down the road. They are located at 2 S. Shore Drive, in Owls Head.
