According to Sheriff Troy Morton, the animal was living in some pretty rough conditions.
"As a result, the dog was removed from its situation in very poor health. The dog weighed less than 30 pounds, was losing fur, and had a shattered leg."

Sheriff Morton says Deputy Babcock was moved by the animal and became "vested in ensuring the dog received the care she deserved."
"Often deputies don't get to hear about the positive impacts they've had on a particular incident, but in this case, those involved connected with the deputy...After nearly 4 months, the deputy was able to visit the dog living her best life with her new amazing family. The deputy enjoyed the chance to reconnect with a healthy and happy dog and his new amazing owners."
