Road Trip: This Maine Beach Has Red Sand
Maine is known for a number of different natural wonders. We have miles of rocky coastline. We have pine tree forests as far as the eye can see. We have majestic mountains and lovely lakes. We even have our very own desert!
When it comes to beaches in Maine, there are quite a few that boast some pretty amazing features, like Jasper Beach in Machiasport, which features "singing" pebbles.
Or Sand Beach, in Acadia National Park, with its clear blue waters.

But did you know, there's a beach in southern Maine that features red sand?
According to Instagram user, Mary Beth Noonan, who has spent a great deal of time there, Jordan's Point is located in Crescent Beach State Park in Cape Elizabeth, at the opposite end of Kettle Cove.
She says the sand gets its red hue from garnet rocks along the beach which, when they break down, mix with the sand. In some spots, the color is a light pink color. In others, the sand is a much deeper color, closer to a purple.
As she explains, it's a little bit of a walk, and kind of hidden (as there's no real sign to tell you where you are,) but it's worth the adventure to get there.
Here's what she says about it. Check it out.
