Surprising Things You Thought Were Everywhere—But Are Only in Maine
Maine has many cool things that only we have.
I suppose some other New England states will try and also claim ownership of things that are considered pretty traditional. And we've also been on the forefront of many useful inventions that have changed the world. Think where the whole cold weather world would be without ear muffs?

On the other hand, there's a lot of cool things we take for granted in Maine, that people outside of New England certainly, that no one has really heard of. We all know that a lot of other places think our famous red hot dogs are pretty unique to us. And I can't begin to tell you how weird people from other state think it is, that we have top-loading hot dog buns.
Most of us assumed these things were everywhere.
I saw a post on Reddit, and I was kind of blown away by how many comments there were. Granted, there were a lot of repeats, but it seemed so many people had stories to share about how many things we have here in Maine that aren't necessarily everywhere, or at least not in the form we're used to.

You don't just find a ton of candlepin bowling alleys in other states. Let's not even get started about Moxie. I find that one pretty ironic, because it's one of the first branded "sodas" in the entire country. The first ever soft drink commercial was for Moxie. And while maybe it's true some people don't know what half our stuff is, it works both ways. Seriously... Go ahead and ask a Mainer what an Egg Cream is...
