There's nothing like a hot cup of cocoa on a cold winter day. I'm not talking about Swiss Miss, even though I loved it as a kid. I'm talking about real homemade cocoa. Sounds good doesn't it?

Friends of Congress Square Park is hosting their annual Hot Cocoa Sip-Off on Sunday, January 19 in Portland's Congress Square. This isn't a chugging contest to see who can drink the most cocoa. It's a competition for the best cocoa recipe from four businesses: The Milk Bottle in South Portland, Black Point Coffee Roasters in Scarborough, The Whole Almond in South Portland, and Cantina Calafia in Portland.

You get to try all these hot cocoa creations and cast your vote for your favorite. You're encouraged to bring your own cup, but you can purchase some handmade mugs at the Sip-Off. There will be fire pits to warm up around as well.

The Hot Cocoa Sip-Off happens on Sunday, January 19 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Admission is free to everyone, however, the Friends of Congress Square Park would appreciate donations of $5 per person. That money helps Friends of Congress Square Park keep events like this going, allowing people to get together and have a lot of fun. You can make a donation at the Hot Cocoa Sip-Off or you can make a donation right now by going to the Friends of Congress Square Park website.
