7 Subway Shops in Maine Shut Down After State Revokes Registrations
Several Subway restaurants in Maine were suddenly forced to close after the state revoked their business registration certificates. The information comes from a WGME report that spoke with employees who were caught off guard by the shutdowns.
In Wiscasset, assistant manager Joshua Rogers told WGME that a state revenue official walked in around 10 a.m. and ordered the restaurant to close immediately. Rogers said the man told him to turn off the lights and lock the doors, but did not explain why. A sign posted on the door said the store’s seller registration certificate had been revoked for failing to comply with state rules.
Rogers told WGME that employees had already noticed warning signs. Paychecks had bounced, direct deposits were delayed, and some workers had not been paid at all. Even with these issues, he said the sudden closure was still a shock.

At least seven Subway locations owned by the franchise group MTF Subs were affected. The franchise’s New England operations director told the station he believes the situation is temporary and that they are working to fix it.
State officials confirmed that multiple certificates had been revoked but said they could not give details because of confidentiality laws.
