Former Portland, Maine Funeral Home to Be Transformed into a Bed-and-Breakfast
There is a pretty well known building in Downtown Portland, Maine that is soon going to be transformed.
It’s the former Conroy-Tully Walker Funeral Homes, located at 172 State Street.
This familiar landmark is going to get a new lease on life and become a cozy bed-and-breakfast, according to Maine Biz.
According to Maine Biz, this building built in 1857 is worth $1.7 million the property was bought by Mark McCain a resident, who has redevelopment background and hospitality. It’s pretty large with over 8,000 square feet at three stories.
They had gotten a ton of offers on this building but because Mark wants to keep it community focused, they accepted his offer.
Mark said that he was drawn to this place right way because of the architecture and location saying,
“We saw this property and thought it would be perfect for a bed-and-breakfast because of its architectural history and location,” MaineBiz
As per the article, he will oversee the entire project to transform this place to a B&B and wants to have the bed and breakfast opened and running by August of 2026!
Design work will be done by Ryan Senatore Architecture in Portland.
“It has a unique history,” he said. “The exterior is really special and inside it has the historical finishes from when it was originally built in 1850s that you can’t re-create now because it’s so ornate.”
It’s exciting to watch a historic Portland building come to life as a cozy, family fun spot you can create memories at!
