Maine’s Largest Park Receives National Acclaim as One of the Best
Maine's largest state park has gained national recognition from a popular publication.
The website Attractions of America recently released an article on the best state parks to visit in the United States. Excitingly, Maine's Baxter State Park was among the ones selected for this prestigious list. That's quite the accomplishment for one of Maine's premier destinations.
Located in Piscataquis County in North-Central Maine, Baxter State Park is a 200,000+ acre playground for outdoor enthusiasts. The park is known for its pristine waters, beautiful scenery, world class hiking, unique wildlife, and outstanding camping.
Baxter is also home to many of Maine's tallest peaks, including Mount Katahdin (the northern tip of the Appalachian Trail), Baxter and Hamlin Peaks, North and South Brother, Double Top, and many others. And many are easily connected by the park's trail system. It truly is a hiker's playground.
Here is a little of why Attractions of America included Baxter State Park in its prestigious list.
Visitors can enjoy many outdoor activities in the park, including hunting, fishing, biking, and camping. There are many different types of campsites, including cabins, tent sites, and even unique lean-tos. Over 50,000 acres in the park are open for hunting many types of animals. Fishing is also allowed in many of the ponds and streams.
Talk about versatility. Baxter truly is a perfect example of everything that is great about a park. It's beautiful, tranquil, and versatile. It's truly a Maine classic.
Baxter was not the only New England state park selected for this article. New Hampshire's legendary Franconia Notch State Park was also selected. Not bad for the picturesque park that features the immaculate Echo Lake.
This is quite the honor for both of these legendary New England state parks. It's just two more examples of why this region continues to be the best to live in.
