Demolished: Maine’s Legendary Beech Ridge Motor Speedway Officially Put to Rest
It was once a popular racetrack. Now, it has turned to rubble.
Beech Ridge Motor Speedway was finally put out of its misery following its closure in 2021 and eventual sale to developers. The legendary track was recently demolished, as bulldozers took down the aging stands and concrete support buildings.
Beech Ridge Motor Speedway Dates Back to the 1940s
Originally opened in 1949, Beech Ridge Motor Speedway was a fixture for race fans in Scarborough and the surrounding community. Featuring live short-track racing, Beech Ridge hosted a wealth of exciting events, including those from NASCAR, the American-Canadian Tour, and numerous local series.
If you grew up around the track, you probably have a story or two to tell. That includes yours truly. It was my first experience with auto racing—a sport still very close to my heart. I remember my father taking my brother and me, and being completely mesmerized by the thrill, danger, and action on the track at Beech Ridge. These are memories I’ll certainly never forget.

While the track has lain dormant for the past four years, this truly feels like the final closure fans of the track had been waiting for. Not that anyone really believed it would come back, but it was always strange to drive by and see it slowly decaying, with no activity. It felt like watching a post-apocalyptic scene unfold, with all the overgrowth and wear and tear.
What is Being Built Where Beech Ridge Motor Speedway Was?
Amazingly, the property will not be used for residential development. This might be the first time something built in Scarborough isn't a house or condo since 1995.
According to WMTW, the former Beech Ridge space will become a massive 24/7 FedEx facility. The expected investment for the construction of the 30,000+ square foot building and its surrounding infrastructure is estimated at around $35 million.
There's no mention of when the building is expected to be finished.
