Maine coffee lovers have been enjoying life lately.

The reason? A massive coffee renaissance is underway in the Pine Tree State. Maine has become quite the coffee mecca.

Nearly every town in the state seems to have at least one spot where Mainers and tourists can enjoy a fresh cup of joe, along with savory and sweet snacks. Many of these places also source high-quality beans and offer creative roasts.

Portland, Maine, is a Wonderful City for Coffee

As one might expect, Portland is fortunate to have a large number of these shops to choose from—including one that a popular website has named the best in Maine.

The folks over at Splash Travels recently published an article highlighting America's best local coffee shops. It served as a tribute to the country’s incredible small business owners, who deserve all the recognition they can get.

The list features the top coffee shop from each state, and for Maine, the honor went to none other than Bard Coffee.

Bard Coffee is One of Portland, Maine's Premier Coffee Shops

Located in the heart of Portland's Old Port district, Bard Coffee has been serving delicious lattes, pour-overs, teas, and treats since it opened over a decade ago. The trendy café is the perfect spot to get your daily buzz—whether you're on your way to work or gearing up for a day of Portland sightseeing. (I highly recommend the dirty chai, in case you were wondering.)

Bard prides itself on its coffee. Not only does it taste great, but the shop is also highly mindful about the sourcing of its beans. Many regions are typically represented on the menu, with flavor, aroma, and sustainability always in mind. You can read more about their mission on the company's website.

Bard's popularity is hard to miss. The coffee shop is always buzzing throughout the day and really picks up during the summer months, thanks to its ideal location in Portland's major shopping district, the Old Port.

But enough from me—here’s a little from Splash Travels on why it selected Bard Coffee as Maine's finest:

...named for the Celtic order of poets who composed and recited verses celebrating the exploits of chieftains and heroes... Bard’s self-proclaimed mission is to tell the story of each cup of coffee they serve, promising a total coffee experience.

This is how you know Bard is serious about coffee. Every little detail—from the beans to the story it tells—adds up to make every cup and experience at Bard extra special. And it certainly doesn’t hurt that their coffee is just damn good.
