Farmers Almanac Predicts Snowy February and Longer Winter for Maine

A quick look at the calendar, and you'll realize that Groundhog Day is right around the corner. Punxsutawney Phil will once again make a proclamation on whether spring arrives early or we're all stuck with several more weeks of winter.

If groundhog predictions aren't your thing, perhaps the Farmers Almanac is. The Farmers Almanac has released their long range outlook for February, March, and beyond. For snow lovers in Maine, Massachusetts, and the rest of New England, it will be a sight for sore eyes.

The Farmers Almanac predicts a tepid end to January, with rain and wind once again the name of the game with the possibility of some light snowfall. But things will amp up in February.

According to the Farmers Almanac, February will feature a pair of prominent storms. They predict Maine and Massachusetts will feel the brunt of a pair of storms that will arrive between the 4th and 7th and then 8th to 11th. Those storms could add up to as much as two feet of snow inland, and a foot of snow along the coastline.

Later in February, the Farmers Almanac predicts a deep freeze followed by another storm that could be dangerous. They call for mixed precipitation with the potential to freeze. New England knows all too well what that means.

One last parting shot from the Farmers Almanac is that while spring is set to arrive on Tuesday, March 19, all of New England can expect some wintry weather into the beginning of April.
