It happens every single year. Summer hotspots like Old Orchard Beach flick a switch and it seems like everyone in the town disappears. The hustle and bustle is replaced with calm and serene.

For most business owners, when the piles of people disappear, that's a clear indication that it's time to shut down for the season. This year, Old Orchard Beach tried something new hoping to extend the season a little longer. They offered free street-parking right after Labor Day.

Even with that bonus in place, walking the main drag of Old Orchard Beach right now feels eerie. It's a time of the year where locals take their town back or the native Mainer can visit without having to elbow the crowds. And if you're hungry while visiting the calm version of OOB, there's one longtime staple that will be ready to serve you.

According to Saco Bay News, Lisa's Pizza has announced that it plans to stay open throughout the winter. Lisa's Pizza had been one of the few restaurants that stayed open year-round in the past but during the last few years, they've closed during the winter.

A handful of restaurants have found success staying open year-round in the area. As Maine's general tourism profile continues to enhance, places like Old Orchard Beach aren't quite as desolate as they once were in the fall and spring.

Increasingly warm bumper months like April and September have also helped drive potential customers to the beach town in the offseason. Enjoy the free parking and a slice while you can.
