Popular Scarborough, Maine, Seafood Restaurant Has No Plans to Reopen
Whenever a restaurant opens, there is excitement and curiosity. But whenever a restaurant closes or doesn't seem to be reopening, there are questions. And questions have lingered over one of the most recognizable restaurants in the Pine Point area of Scarborough.
That would be Bayley's Seafood, a staple of the area for nearly three decades. A series of unfortunate events have been a cloud over the restaurant venture leaving summer visitors alongside year-round residents wondering what has been going on.
According to MaineBiz, it started with the death of the patriarch of the business back in 2021. Plans were in place to reopen the restaurant in 2022 but the owners were welcomed by burst pipes and a large scale clean up and restoration.
But the summer of 2022 didn't go as planned as Bayley's Seafood found it difficult to hire contractors and get the work done in a timely manner. Those delays couple with other issues led to a lost 2022 summer season.
Since that lost summer, the owners have been attempting to chip away at many of the issues the restaurant was facing in order to reopen. But between functional issues and the staffing problems so many other places in the service industry are facing, it appears the owners of Bayley's Seafood have thrown in the towel.
The restaurant at 165 Pine Point Road is now listed for lease by the Fletcher Group. Inside the listing, it details that the restaurant is turn key, meaning minimal to no repairs would be needed to open.
Perhaps the next restaurant that takes over the space will serve the community for another three decades.
