Here’s What is Replacing Cinemagic in South Portland, Maine
Once upon a time, going to the movies was something everyone did in America. Grab some buttery popcorn and a soda, and get ready to be blown away by the big screen and powerful sound.
But the movie theater industry hasn't fully recovered from the pandemic. Many theater chains across the country have closed permanently or dramatically reduced the number of theaters they operate.
Maine felt that as well. More than three years ago, Cinemagic closed rather abruptly. That closure was felt by movie lovers throughout southern Maine, as some of the most comfortable and consistent theaters in the state were shuttered.
Since then, the old Cinemagic theater locations in Westbrook and Saco have found new life. But the "hidden" cinema at Clarks Pond Plaza in South Portland hasn't been so lucky. In fact, it looked like the curtain had closed on that theater for good until recently.
Signs of life began showing up. The parking lot had been paved. New lines had been drawn. Utility companies and interior workers had been showing up. And rather noticeably, the "Cinemagic Grand" sign had been taken down.
That's because the theaters at the Shops at Clarks Pond will once again be a thing. The theater location has been taken over by Entertainment Luxury Cinemas, a small New England-based chain that operates a handful of locations in both Massachusetts and New Hampshire.
The South Portland location already has a digital footprint, listed on Yelp, Google as well as the Entertainment Luxury Cinemas website as "coming soon".
Based on the preparations being made, it looks like the new Entertainment Luxury Cinemas in South Portland, Maine, will premiere very, very soon.
