
Prices Are Likely to Increase at Walmart Stores Across Maine
Whether you agree with President Donald Trump's economic plans or not, you're likely to see and feel some of the results from widespread tariffs being put into place.
Since Trump took office and announced a slew of tariffs on countries as well as specific goods, economists have warned that at some point American businesses would have to pass the additional expense onto their consumers.
For Walmart, that time has arrived.
Walmart Announces Price Increases At Stores All Across Maine
Walmart currently owns and operates 25 stores in Maine, including 19 Walmart Supercenters. In fact, Walmart plans to invest some significant money into a pair of Maine locations as they begin to transform their stores "into the future".
In the present, price changes on a variety goods are unavoidable at all stores. According to BBC, during an earnings call on Thursday, Walmart told investors that they would need to raise prices to offset the tariffs imposed by President Donald Trump.
Not Everything at Walmart Stores in Maine Will See a Significant Price Increase
The majority of Walmart stores across America and here in Maine populate their stores with American-made products. Walmart estimates roughly two-thirds of their brands and stocked products are produced in the U.S. That includes many food items and clothing.
But China still remains the primary producer in a pair of major categories for Walmart. Toys and electronics. Everything from televisions and laptops to games and dolls are likely to see price increases starting as soon as June 1.
Not at food items will be absolved of price increases. Items like fruit and coffee will be subject to tariffs and Walmart will move that additional cost onto consumers.
