Boston, Massachusetts, Best Two Companies to Work For

Remember during the pandemic when people were leaving New York City in droves?  Their jobs became remote or they were fired or let go, etc.

In Boston, according to what I remember, that didn't happen so much.  If people were fired, sick or whatever, they would just hunker down and wait until it was over because people love living here.

Now, according to Forbes.com, 2024 research shows that Boston has the number 1 and number 3 best employers in the entire country.

The rating was based on a survey of 160,000 employees who worked for companies with at least 500 people in the U.S.  The employees were asked to rate their employer and here's how they ranked.

#1.  Fidelity Investments, Boston, Massachusetts

Fidelity Investments was founded in 1946, according to Forbes, by Edward Johnson II.  (Who knew it was a family business?) The family still owns 49% of the company, while the employees own the remaining 51%.

A few years ago, in 2016, Abigail Johnson was named as CEO.  It was a big deal at the time.  She had succeeded her Dad Edward Johnson III who had been CEO since 1977.  (I don't know why, but I'm reminded of that show "Succession.")

The company has approximately 74,000 employees.  Although its headquarters is in Boston, they have offices all over New Hampshire and around the world, so says my sister-in-law who is some big shot at Fidelity.

#3:  Liberty Mutual, Boston, Massachusetts

This insurance company was founded in 1912 and its headquarters is in Boston, with offices around the world.  They employ 45,000 employees and one emu.

I have to say, I DO like Liberty Mutual's commercials.
