Just When You Think You're Safe in Your Kitchen

Have you heard about this fridge recall?

Recently, there has been a voluntary recall of several Frigidaire side-by-side refrigerators with Slim Ice Buckets due to a choking and laceration hazard, according to the U.S. Product Safety Commission.

So if you bought one in New Hampshire, Massachusetts, or any other state in the U.S., you might want to check this out.

It's the Ice Bucket That Could Cause Harm and Should Stop Being Used Immediately.

The ice buckets in the recalled units have a component that can break off, enter your ice bucket, and possibly enter your cup and pose a choking hazard when you drink your refreshing water/soda.

The USPSC recommends consumers immediately stop using the ice buckets and contact the Electrolux Group, who will replace the assembly component for free.

Reports of Injury

The makers of the refrigerator have received over 300 reports of injury, including two that resulted in a laceration (otherwise known as a cut or tear in the skin), according to the USPSC.

These Were Sold at Big Box Stores All Over New England

The refrigerators were sold at Lowe's, Home Depot, and others between November 2015 through September 2019 for about $1,400 and $2,400, according to the press release.

There are 20 Home Depot stores in New Hampshire, and 45 in Massachusetts.  There are 13 Lowe's stores in New Hampshire, and 28 in Massachusetts.

This is not a small amount of refrigerators we're talking about either.  The recall cites over 380,000 units sold that need repair.

If I had one of these units, I would want to replace the entire refrigerator.  Not because I wouldn't feel safe after the repair, but because I'm always willing to upgrade my appliances.
