Portland, Maine's Anna Kendrick felt 'gross' making money from her latest film

Anna Kendrick has made Portland, Maine proud.  Now she is going a step further and donating all the proceeds from her latest movie to RAINN, the National Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network and the National Center for Victims of Violent Crimes.

Anna said, according to Variety.com, it's the least she could do.

Those two organizations are two of the country's best that support victims of sexual abuse and violence.

If you haven't seen 'Woman of the Hour' it's about a struggling actress trying to make it in the film industry in the 1970s.  Something Anna could possibly relate to.

Anna plays the part of Sheryl Bradshaw, who ends up getting an 'acting' gig on the "Dating Game" and meets "Contestant Number 3."

The movie is hard to watch for a couple reasons, the first one is the amount of sexism that the main character had to put up with.

In the '70s, even though it was the age of women's lib and commercials portraying women as the ones who can do it all, the rude comments, the condescension and the abuse that women had to put up with was gut-wrenching.

(Side note:  This commercial didn't do women any favors.  After that, women were expected to cook, clean AND hold down a 40-hour-a-week job.)

The second reason, of course, was the actual violence of the film.

Anna's directorial debut was the story of serial killer Rodney Alcala's appearance on the "Dating Game" in 1978 when he was in the middle of a killing binge.  He was sent to prison for the murders of 5 people, however, he may have killed more than 120.

Anna is beloved here in New England for many reasons, and now we can list another one.
