Creepy Holiday Statue Dubbed ‘Demented Santa’ by Manchester, NH, Locals
Every now and then this writer has a moment where she thinks she's seen it all, before something else inevitably comes along to top things.
Enter this nightmare-inducing Santa statue, which lurks on the corner of Harrison & Elm in Manchester, New Hampshire. The 12-foot-tall statue stands outside Fresh Balsam Fur's Christmas Tree's and Wreaths, according to the New Hampshire Union Leader. Imagine shopping for the family Christmas tree, all while Kris Kringle towers over you with unflinching eyes that watch your every move.
Despite its obvious creepiness, this sinister Santa has become a humorous staple of the holiday season in Manchester. Dubbed 'Demented Santa' by locals, the statue even has its own Facebook page with over 2,6000 followers at the time of this writing. The page, which has been a thing since 2011, is unaffiliated with the Christmas tree stand or the statue's owner(s), and simply exists as a fan account.
In years past, people have come up with merchandise featuring Demented Santa, including these shirts, which appropriately read "He sees you when you're sleeping. He knows when you're awake."
Someone else designed these Christmas ornaments, which you can purchase here on Etsy. If you're trying to brainstorm stocking stuffer ideas for the Manchester resident in your life, this could be just the gift you're looking for.
Heck, he even has fans on the West Coast.
Honestly, this writer is a fan of Demented Santa. Sure, the statue could use a paint job and has eyes that stare straight into your soul, but at the end of the day, people get a kick out of him, and what's wrong with more smiles and laughter during the holidays, right?
