I love a good go-kart park.  The friendly competition with your family and friends.  Who's the fastest? Who's the slowest?

There’s just something about go-karts that instantly makes you feel like a kid again. You can be stressed about work, bills, traffic on 95, or standing in line at Market Basket for 20 minutes… then suddenly you’re flying around a track pretending you’re in the Daytona 500 for absolutely no reason.

That’s kind of the magic of summer in New Hampshire. FUN!  I live for it.

One place that keeps coming up when people talk about classic family fun is Mel's Funway Park in Litchfield.

The smell of sunscreen, go-kart gas and fried food in the air. Kids running toward the arcade asking you for more money. Laughing and having the time of their lives. Someone carrying melting ice cream. Parents pretending they’re “just watching” until they end up climbing into a go-kart themselves.

And the go-karts here are actually legit.

The track at Mel's Funway Park has hairpin turns, an elevated bridge section, and enough speed to make you immediately become way too competitive with your own family. One second it’s a friendly race… the next thing you know your cousin is trying to pass you on the inside corner like it’s NASCAR at Loudon.

Honestly, that’s part of the fun.

What I love about places like this is that it’s not trying to be some massive over-the-top theme park experience. It’s just simple summer fun. Go-karts, mini golf, laser tag, batting cages, arcade games, bumper boats… basically the kind of place where you show up for “an hour” and suddenly it’s dark outside.

The best summer memories aren’t complicated. They’re random Tuesday nights grabbing ice cream after mini golf. They’re parents yelling “DON’T BUMP ME” while laughing through a go-kart track. They’re kids begging for “just one more ride.”

With all of the chaos in the world, we need a place like this in our lives.
