‘Jeopardy!’ Answer Features This Famous Maine Bigfoot Museum
It's fun to see Maine be part of a clue on Jeopardy!, but most of the time, contestants don't seem to be all that familiar with our state. That was the case on the March 8 episode of Jeopardy!, which was game number 2 of the 2024 Tournament of Champions semifinal.
The contestants – Emily Sands from Minnesota, Yogesh Raut from Vancouver, Washington, and David Sibley from Walla Walla, Washington – were in a battle to advance to the Tournament of Champions semifinal when Emily chose the $2000 clue in the Double Jeopardy! round. The category was "13-Letter Words," and here was the clue:
The international museum for this in Maine has exhibits on Bigfoot & the Loch Ness Monster
Emily started counting on her fingers the number of letters that were in her response before giving the answer "What is ichthyology?" She was incorrect. Ichthyology is the branch of zoology devoted to the study of fish, and it's only 11 letters long. Yogesh then rang in, giving the correct response: "What is cryptozoology?"
The museum that the clue refers to is the International Cryptozoology Museum, which has locations at Thompson's Point in Portland and 585 Hammond Street in Bangor.
The museum has many exhibits of animals that have never been proven to exist scientifically, like Bigfoot, the Loch Ness Monster, Yeti, chupacabra, and mermaids.
As for the Jeopardy! results, by the time Final Jeopardy came around, Yogesh was far enough in the lead to have a lock on the win unless he made a really bad wager, which he didn't. Both he and Emily wagered $0 in hopes of moving on to the next finals. David and Emily gave incorrect responses, and each took away $10,000 for making it this far.
A big thanks to J! Archive, which has results from every episode for all 40 seasons of Jeopardy!
