UPDATE: Rare Blue Lobster Leaves Becky’s Diner in Portland for the Ocean

Mark Rand and his son Luke caught the rare blue lobster while fishing near Peaks Island. It's a very vibrant blue! The lobster made a temporary home at Becky's Diner in Portland. Not on a plate, but just hanging. Why? Because it's a family affair.

According to the Press Herald, Luke has been fishing on his dad's boat since he was 16. So about 20 years. His dad has been fishing twice as long. Luke told the paper,

We’ve never pulled one this color or even seen one to throw back.

It made a temporary home at Becky's Diner, because Becky Rand, the owner happens to be Luke's mom. Since Becky's is a pretty popular hot spot in the summer, it was a neat attraction for tourists. Just how rare is finding a blue lobster? Statistics say about 1 in 2 million. But it seems like we hear about blue lobsters getting caught quite often. There are lobsters that are even rarer to catch. According to an article for All That is Interesting, the Lobster Institute at the University of Maine says the odds of catching a yellow lobster. Odds are 1 in 50 million for a two-toned lobster. But the albino or 'crystal' lobster is 1 in 100 million. But a Maine fisherman caught one back in 2017.

But lobsters gotta live the lobster life. So the little guy is heading back into the ocean. Hopefully you had a chance to see the blue fellow.
