bon Vivant in Lewiston, Maine, was one of the first restaurants to announce its closure in 2025.

The fine dining establishment that opened in 2023 announced on social media in early January 2025 that it would be no more.

WMTW even did a feature on the upscale spot that had moved into a former Subway, noting it was getting rave reviews for its farm-to-table menu. Sadly, that positive word of mouth wouldn't be enough to keep it around.

The restaurant said in a Facebook post that the "national trends in the restaurant industry combined with the physical and financial climate of downtown Lewiston has proven not ready for a high-end restaurant."

Obscura Cafe & Drinkery in Lewiston, Maine, Closes in June 2025

Just a few months later, in May, Obscura Cafe & Drinkery in Lewiston, Maine, announced on Facebook that it was ending its run.

The restaurant and bar, which opened in 2022, was inspired by 1920s nostalgia.

The spot mentioned that "the ongoing challenges we faced with the city, and the current declining conditions and safety of the area have just proven insurmountable for us."

Obscura Cafe & Drinkery closed June 28, 2025.

Luiggi's Pizzeria in Lewiston, Maine, Closes in August 2025

Then, just a few months away from hitting 2026, Luiggi's Pizzeria in Lewiston confirmed the closing rumors.

In a Facebook post in August, the pizza place stated it would be closing permanently and noted it was "truly sorry we couldn’t keep the nostalgia going the way many had hoped."

They acknowledged the many hurdles they faced after taking over the 72-year-old restaurant from its previous owners, but they wanted to focus on the positive and the memories, grateful for being a part of the decades-long legacy.

Restaurant closures are never easy, especially when they’re places that felt like they had heart and personality. The type of places where you find connection.

bon Vivant, Obscura, and Luiggi’s each brought something different to Lewiston’s food scene, and whether they were around for decades or only a few years, their absence will be felt.

But if there’s one thing Maine does well, it’s finding ways to reinvent and rebuild. And while those particular restaurant doors have closed, there are going to be new Lewiston restaurants opening and creating new memories and legacies.
