The Lewiston Police Department has a new patrol K-9 whose name you might recognize if you've ever walked through Simard-Payne Memorial Park.

Lewiston Police posted a picture of a one-year-old Dutch Shepherd posing in front of the memorial in the park named after two officers who gave the ultimate sacrifice of their lives in the line of duty to protect and serve the citizens of Lewiston.

This new patrol K-9 is named "Payne" after Lewiston Poilice Department Officer David R. Payne who was shot and killed in the line of duty in 1988. Payne will be trained in multiple skills as a Lewiston Police K-9, including building, article and missing person searches and drug detection.

What better honor than to be the Patrol K-9 to bear Officer Payne's name?
