I know, I know, another hotel in Portland, Maine? This one is different.

The Longfellow Hotel is on Congress Street toward the West End, not jammed onto Commercial Street in Downtown Portland. That's the first different thing. The Longfellow Hotel opens on May 17. According to Mainebiz, they already have bookings.

How is the Longfellow Hotel different from the other 700 in Portland, Maine?

The hotel's manager, Bethany Wade, told Mainebiz that when it comes to a full-service boutique luxury hotel,

Portland doesn’t have a hotel similar to us. We have a great opportunity to fill that niche that hasn’t been found in the Portland area.

Plus, this is an independent hotel, and not a chain like most in the center of Portland. Built where there used to be a gas station, the Longfellow says they will be the first independently-owned, full-service hotel to open in the city since the Portland Harbour Hotel in 2002.

The 48-room Longfellow Hotel has the Astraea Spa

The Astraea Spa offers a hot-cold infrared sauna*, a herbal sleep cocoon, a seaweed wrap, and even a meditation room.

(*They say on their website: The invigorating challenge of that cold water and dedicated time to rest between cycles is a great experience to help you reconnect while trying something new!)

They do take the "wellness" part of the hotel seriously, from little details like an alarm clock that helps you with meditation, sound baths, and breath work, to no single-use plastic anywhere, electric vehicle charging stations, complimentary bicycles, and even an electric luxury car service that will take you anywhere in a three-mile radius.

Yes, it is expensive, but they take dogs!
