Since about mid-2020, the State of Maine has seen a major influx of people from other parts of the East Coast.  Largely because of pandemic restrictions, tens of thousands of people made the move from Boston, New York, and other cities, to Maine.  Realizing they could work remotely, it just made sense to move to a much more affordable state.

Additionally, they found that Maine was a state that had so much to offer.  Maine has amazing restaurants, great live music and entertainment venues, and picturesque scenery.

Because of these reasons, and many more, it really should not be a big surprise that one of Maine's cities topped the list of best places to live on the East Coast.

According to the article on the Travel + Leisure website, Portland topped the list of the best places to live on the East Coast.

Some of the reasons they gave for selecting Portland as the pinnacle of the list included how walkable the city is and how it has an up-and-coming art scene.  The reason for selecting Portland extended beyond the city itself.  The authors also seemed influenced by the surrounding communities and the beauty of the State of Maine itself.

Portland was not the only New England town to get some love on the list.  Portsmouth, New Hampshire came in a close second and Boston came in third place on the list.

Other cities on the list include Greenwich, Connecticut, Washington DC, and New York City.
