Maine Movie Theaters Temporarily Closing
As cases of COVID-19 multiply throughout Maine, various businesses are listening to the recommendations of the Center for Disease Control, World Health Organization, and our own local leaders.
A handful of cities throughout the state have issued curfews on businesses where people go to gather such as restaurants, bars, and clubs. Many have been required to shut down by 8 p.m.
While there has been no official mandate on movie theaters, many are stepping up and closing their doors for the time being.
On March 16th Smitty's Cinema announced they will be closing their theaters (located in Biddeford, Sanford, Tilton, Windham, and Topsham) and GameLAB (Sanford) until public safety officials give the green light to return to normal operations.
Next, Cinemagic Stadium Theaters (located in Saco, South Portland, and Westbrook) announced they too would be shutting down through April 7th. Including the Saco location which is the home for Maine's only IMAX theater. Cinemagic had already closed down their locations in Massachusetts and New Hampshire.
Shortly after Cinemagic's announcement Flagship Cinemas (located in Auburn, Falmouth, Oxford, Thomaston, Waterville, and Wells) announced they would also be closing.
If you already have tickets for showings during the temporarily shut down, each chain has their own policy and procedure for refunds so be sure to check with that theater specifically on how to get a refund or to use your pass for another date.
